About us

The UK National Committee for UN Women is the voice for UN Women in the UK. We support the work of UN Women globally in its mission for gender equality and the empowerment of women. Our work is focused on influencing and raising awareness to create change in the treatment of women and girls here in the UK and throughout the world. We do this through working with Government and parliamentarians, corporate partners, and civil society. The post-2015 development agenda is a key focus of our advocacy work in the UK, read more here.

We are self-funding and aim to return at least 90% of all income directly to UN Women programmes. Click here to see the specific programmes we are currently supporting.

We work with the Department for International Development and other government agencies, and in partnership with many other organisations. These include: the United Nations Association, the Royal Commonwealth Society, the National Alliance of Women’s Organisations and Soroptimist International. We are a member of the Gender Action for Peace and Security coalition (GAPS UK).

We are one of 18 National Committees for UN Women across the world and maintain close links with these organisations.

Our Trustees

The work of UN Women National Committee UK is directed by a board of trustees, elected each year. They are responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation, for fundraising, and for engaging with stakeholders from national governments, international NGOs, businesses and individual members. Our current Co-Chairs are Kathryn Colvin and Laura Haynes. You can find out more about our trustees in this briefing: About the UN Women UK National Committee Trustees.
